Yomud Main Carpet, 5’6” x 8’6”, ca. 1890

Description
This 5’6” x 8’6” antique Yomud main carpet presents a field of turreted guls, a motif long associated with the Yomud tribes of Turkmenistan. Woven in saturated tones of madder red, midnight indigo, and ivory, the design pulses with fractal complexity—each shape seeming to fold into the next. Wide borders in cream and rust offer strong architectural framing, with ram’s horn and crucif. A commanding piece with deeply tribal roots and striking graphic appeal.
